Jeff Galea was born in Sydney and was fortunate to have a musical upbringing. His father, Joseph, being an established performer of Maltese folk and popular music, taught Jeff the guitar at an early age. He developed his instrumental skills as both classical and contemporary guitarist while performing in various ensembles such as
The Classical Guitar Society Orchestra. Other contemporary ensembles allowed Jeff to develop his creative talents through composing pieces in many styles.
He studied composition at various institutions including the Australian Institute of Music (Dr. Chat Po Koo and Dr. David Hush), University of Sydney (Professor Anne Boyd) and the University of Wollongong (Professor Stephen Ingham), completing a Bachelor of Music (Hons) and MA(R) in composition.
Jeff's works have been performed by various ensembles/ musicians throughout Australia including Sonic Connections, the University of Sydney Orchestra and various musicians/ ensembles at the Australian Institute of Music.
He has composed a full length film score for The Game Room (director Joe Tornatore) and was the musical director for an episode of Blue Water High (producer Ian Watson, televised by the ABC in 2005-2006).
Jeff has also worked in collaboration with graphic artists which has resulted in works such as Metropolis (short abstract film) and The Dream Job (animation).
His latest works include a double guitar concerto (Melita Fantasie), composed utilizing Maltese folk melodies and a song cycle for piano and voice in the Maltese language.
Jeff continues to compose and perform music and is currently self-employed, being the proprietor of his own music school (Cadence Music).
